1. Overview

The Seven-Segment LED Display Module is designed for industrial RS485 display applications. It is available in 1-digit to 6-digit versions, with overall dimensions varying by digit count. The module uses the Modbus RTU protocol. The host can refresh the display by writing registers, and parameters such as brightness, decimal point, flashing, slave address, and baud rate are configurable.

ItemDescription
Form factorPanel-mount seven-segment LED display with a rear 4-pin terminal for power and RS485
InterfaceRS485 (A/B) and DC power terminals
ProtocolModbus RTU slave, default address 1
Display content0 to 9, A to F, -, ., with decimal point and flashing support
Version options1 to 6 digits, with enclosure size varying by digit count

2. Selection Information

2.1 Display Digit Versions

Display Digit VersionDisplay DigitsTypical Application
1-digit version1 digitSingle-status indication, single-character workstation code
2-digit version2 digitsShort code display, counter status
3-digit version3 digitsSingle-point current, pressure, or temperature display
4-digit version4 digitsIndustrial scales, equipment room parameter display
5-digit version5 digitsHigh-resolution process value display
6-digit version6 digitsProduction line or energy data with a wider numeric range

2.2 Packing List

  • Seven-segment display module x1
  • 4-pin terminal block, pre-soldered
  • Quick start card with factory default parameters

3. Key Features

  1. Multiple digit options: One product series covers 1-digit to 6-digit display requirements.
  2. Direct Modbus display update: Refresh the display through register writes using 0x06 or 0x10.
  3. Non-volatile parameter storage: Address, baud rate, brightness, and power-on mode are retained after power loss.
  4. Easy commissioning: Supports all-segments-on, all-segments-off, single-digit writes, batch writes, and flashing control.
  5. Industrial communications: RS485 differential signaling with a default data rate of 9600 bps and support for higher baud rates.

4.4 Configurable Parameters

ParameterRangeDescription
Brightness level0 to 70 is the dimmest and 7 is the brightest
Decimal point count0 to NN equals the actual number of display digits
Sign handlingPositive / Negative / AutoAuto shows the minus sign based on the register value written
Display retentionEnable / DisableWhen enabled, the last display content is retained after power loss

5. Interface and Indicators

TerminalDescription
V+DC 9 to 24 V positive
V-DC negative, common ground with RS485 GND
ARS485 A (+) differential line
BRS485 B (-) differential line

Indicators

  • RUN: Steady on after power-up and flashes rapidly during parameter writes.
  • COMM: Flashes during communication and turns off after about 5 seconds without data.

6. Installation and Wiring

  1. Select the correct panel cutout for the display digit count and secure the module in place.
  2. Wire the terminals in the V+ / V- / A / B order. Shielded twisted pair is recommended for RS485, with 120 ohm termination at both bus ends.
  3. Connect the power ground, RS485 GND, and host ground together to reduce common-mode interference.
  4. Use a unique slave address for each device on the same RS485 bus.
  5. During commissioning, use the all-segments-on or all-segments-off command first to verify the hardware link, then switch to the normal display mode.
