Y811-52AV — Compact Sounder-Beacon Technical Manual

This manual covers the Y811-52AV compact sounder-beacon. The hardware uses RS485. The ordered configuration may use the custom RS485 protocol or the standard Modbus RTU profile listed in the Y811-52AV specification.

1. Safety and scope

Y811-52AV provides auxiliary audible and visual warning. It is not an emergency-stop circuit, a certified fire-alarm panel, a life-safety system, or a safety-rated control circuit.

The listed supply is DC 9-30 V. Disconnect power before wiring, changing the mounting, accessing the enclosure, or changing the ordered communication configuration. The enclosure is listed as non-waterproof.

2. Confirmed configuration

Use the protocol and hardware configuration that match the ordered unit. Do not assume that the standard Modbus profile applies to a unit ordered with the custom RS485 protocol.

3. RS485 wiring and commissioning

Use a twisted pair for RS485 A and B. Keep the bus away from motor cables, relay outputs, and high-frequency switching devices. Use a daisy-chain topology for multiple devices and assign a unique address to each device.

The supplied protocol reference confirms RS485 but does not define the connector pinout or wire colors. Follow the label on the delivered cable or the production drawing. Do not infer A/B polarity from another Y811 model.

The supplied Modbus reference confirms:

ParameterConfirmed value
Physical interfaceRS485
ProtocolModbus RTU
Baud rate9600 bit/s
Frame fieldsDevice address (1 byte), function code (1 byte), start address (2 bytes), data (N bytes), and CRC (2 bytes)
CRC byte orderCRC-L followed by CRC-H
Reference frameFF 06 00 01 00 00 XX XX

The reference identifies FF as a super address that can be changed to the corresponding device address. It does not establish FF as the default address. XX XX are CRC placeholders. The supplied reference also does not state parity, stop bits, data-bit settings, or the complete CRC calculation procedure.

4. Standard Modbus command reference

The supplied command reference uses Modbus function code 06 in its examples. The command values below describe the standard Modbus profile:

Command valueFunction
0x0FPlay a specified folder and track; the reference also shows light-state combinations such as steady red or slow-flashing yellow
0x01Play the next track
0x02Play the previous track
0x03Play a specified track; the reference shows light-state combinations
0x04Increase volume
0x05Decrease volume
0x06Set volume
0x08Loop a single track without specifying a track in the command
0x09Select the playback device, such as USB disk or flash memory
0x0BSet the baud rate; the reference example sets 9600 bit/s
0x0CReset the chip
0x0DStart playback
0x0EPause playback
0x11Enable or disable looping of all tracks
0x16Stop the current playback
0x17Loop playback of a specified folder
0x18Play tracks randomly across the device
0x19Enable or disable looping of the current track
0xC0Set the device address
0xC2Control the D1 warning lamp independently of the current playback state

The reference examples include:

  • FF 06 00 0F 02 07 XX XX for folder 2, track 7
  • FF 06 00 06 00 1E XX XX for volume 30

Replace the CRC placeholders with the CRC calculated for the complete frame. Verify the address, selected protocol, and command against the delivered configuration before sending a command.

4.1 Extended playback, address, and light-control frames

The supplied reference gives the following standard Modbus request examples. The examples use the reference's FF super address and XX XX CRC placeholders:

CommandRequest exampleMeaning
0x11FF 06 00 11 00 01 XX XXEnable looping of all tracks
0x11FF 06 00 11 00 00 XX XXDisable looping of all tracks
0x16FF 06 00 16 00 01 XX XXStop the current playback
0x17FF 06 00 17 00 01 XX XXLoop playback of folder 01
0x18FF 06 00 18 00 00 XX XXPlay the entire device randomly
0x19FF 06 00 19 00 00 XX XXEnable looping of the current track
0x19FF 06 00 19 00 01 XX XXDisable looping of the current track
0xC0FF 06 00 C0 00 01 XX XXSet the device address to 01
0xC0FF 06 00 C0 00 63 XX XXSet the device address to 99

The reference uses command 0xC2 for independent D1 warning-lamp control:

Request exampleMeaning
FF 06 00 C2 00 11 XX XXRed steady; keep the current playback state unchanged
FF 06 00 C2 00 23 XX XXGreen slow flash; keep the current playback state unchanged
FF 06 00 C2 00 32 XX XXYellow rapid/burst flash; keep the current playback state unchanged
FF 06 00 C2 00 60 XX XXTurn the warning lamp off

For the general light-control format FF 06 00 C2 00 XY CRC-L CRC-H, the reference defines the two value nibbles as follows:

X valueLight modeY valueLight color
1Steady1Red
2Slow flash2Yellow
3Rapid/burst flash3Green
6Off0Off

The reference also shows FF 06 60 03 00 01 XX XX for playing the first track while keeping warning lamp D1 off. Calculate CRC-L and CRC-H from the complete frame before sending any request.

4.2 Query frames (Modbus function 03)

The supplied reference lists these query requests:

CommandRequest exampleQuery
0x4DFF 03 00 4D 00 00 XX XXCurrent track
0x42FF 03 00 42 00 00 XX XXCurrent playback status
0x43FF 03 00 43 00 00 XX XXCurrent volume
0x49FF 03 00 49 00 00 XX XXNumber of files on the device
0x70FF 03 00 70 00 00 XX XXCurrent sound and light status

The supplied reference shows the query request frames but does not define the response byte layout or the value encoding for each returned status. Confirm the delivered protocol revision before implementing response parsing.

5. Custom RS485 protocol

The parameter table lists a custom RS485 protocol option but does not provide its frame definition or command table. Request the configuration-specific protocol sheet before integrating a unit ordered with the custom protocol. Do not send the standard Modbus command map to that configuration.

6. Installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance

  1. Confirm the DC 9-30 V supply and polarity before energizing the unit.
  2. Confirm panel or bracket mounting and leave the sound openings clear.
  3. Keep the enclosure away from water because the unit is listed as non-waterproof.
  4. Test one unit on a short RS485 cable before adding other devices.
  5. Record the selected protocol, address, baud rate, and configuration in the service record.
