1. Overview

Y501-L receives LoRaWAN end-device traffic and forwards it to an external Network Server. It includes Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and RS485, with optional 4G backhaul. Optional local Network Server (NS) and Application Server (AS) software manages device sessions and application data on the gateway.

Choose an 8-channel or 16-channel configuration to suit the site's radio traffic.

2. Model Configurations

ConfigurationReceive channelsDownlink channelsSelection profile
Y501-L, 8-channel81Lower concurrent radio traffic
Y501-L, 16-channel162More receive channels; two transmit paths

Channel count describes radio paths. Device capacity depends on airtime, reporting intervals, payload size, interference, and downlink traffic. Regional limits, duplex mode, and server scheduling constrain downlink capacity even with two transmit paths.

3. Key Features

  • Half-duplex or full-duplex radio hardware, selected when ordering.
  • UDP/GWMP or MQTT packet forwarding, selected for the Network Server transport.
  • Local web configuration and firmware upgrades; remote management where enabled.
  • Optional local NS/AS services for device activation, sessions, and application data.

In forwarding mode, the external Network Server manages device activation and sessions; the gateway transports radio packets.

Radio hardware bandwidth range7.8 to 500 kHz; usable LoRaWAN settings depend on the regional plan
Spreading factorSF7 to SF12
Range test results470–490 MHz tests by spreading factor

4.2 Network and Field Interfaces

Interface or functionSpecification
Ethernet10/100 Mbps RJ45
4GOptional; module and operator-band coverage vary by ordered variant
Wi-Fi2.4 GHz; AP, STA, or AP+STA modes as specified for the hardware variant
RS485Standard A/B hardware; Modbus RTU data access requires the local-service software configuration
USBMicroUSB USB-TTL debug and log interface
SIM cardStandard SIM card on 4G configurations
ConfigurationLocal web interface; remote configuration requires firmware support and enabled access

Maximum power10.2 W @ DC 12 V18 W

4.4 Range Test Results

Y501-L range tests measured reception of end-device transmissions at 470–490 MHz.

Test conditionValue
End-device transmit power22 dBm
Data loadFull data load at each spreading factor; frame sizes as shown in the results
End-device antenna height1.5 m
Gateway receiver chipSX1302
Gateway receiver sensitivity-140 dBm @ SF12, BW125 kHz
Test frequency470–490 MHz

Urban tests used locations with building obstructions and moderate interference. Open / suburban tests used good line of sight, few obstructions, and a higher gateway antenna.

Spreading factorUrban distanceOpen / suburban distanceFrame size
SF70.5–0.7 km5.4 km222 bytes
SF80.7–0.9 km6.8 km222 bytes
SF90.9–1.0 km8.3 km115 bytes
SF101.0–1.1 km10 km51 bytes
SF111.1–1.5 km11.5 km51 bytes
SF121.5–1.8 km13.5 km51 bytes

These test distances apply to the stated uplink conditions. Antenna placement and height, obstructions, interference, and radio settings affect site coverage. Test uplinks and downlinks at the installation site; other frequency variants require separate coverage checks.

7. Ordering and Deployment Notes

  • Specify the frequency plan, channel count, and duplex hardware. For AS923, include the sub-plan.
  • Match radio channels with the end devices and Network Server.
  • Include 4G when cellular backhaul is required; check the module's operator-band coverage.
  • Request local NS/AS and RS485 data-service software if needed. For Modbus access, agree on the gateway role and register map.
  • Check the supplied connector set and antenna count, then attach the LoRa antennas before applying power.
